We will relive the last day of life of Julius Caesar, retracing the path that led him to his tragic end. I will lead you from the place where Caesar was assassinated, back to his home, the Domus Publica located inside the Roman Forum. Through this journey in time, I will show you the same places and buildings that Caesar himself habitually frequented during his stays in Rome. Along the way, we will stop in particular spots, where archaeology and the present have met and amalgamated creating unique sites: cats, contemporary art, optical illusions, architectural pastiches and many other surprises will dot our journey on Caesar's trail !

I'm an archaeologist member of the Gruppo Archeologico Romano (The Archaeological Group of Rome) and host of the Airbnb Experience in Rome called "Archaeologist for a Day". I have a great passion for the discovery of the past and this city of mine where I was born and grew up, Rome; a passion I love to share and transmit.

Donde estarás

We will begin our journey from the Largo Argentina area in the historical center of Rome. On foot we will continue through characteristic alleys to the square of Campo de Fiori where we will visit the basement of a contemporary art gallery. We will then head towards the Jewish Ghetto making a brief stop inside Palazzo Spada. The last part of the route will include the ascent to the Campidoglio with a breathtaking view of the Roman Forum.

This tour is very special .. I´d say it is precious. I have read books about Roman history and I have read books about Caesar. Taking this tour with Gianfranco made him become "alive" made his Rome "rise before my eyes". Today there are possibilities with AR and VR which do make ancient Rome more "tangible" - yet the magic story telling during this tour goes to a different level. We literally retraced Julius Caesars steps - from where he was murdered, to where he left his house on the morning of the fatal day. The route was based on contemporary writings of the time and on archaeological findings.

This is a wonderful experience in Rome, our host Claudio made history come to life through his explanations and the research and findings of archaeologists who specialise in this period of Roman history. We learnt so much on this tour. It was a beautiful day and you really did get a picture of Caesars last day and what life would have been like in those times. We would highly recommend this tour to any one who is interested in history and curious to have the layers peeled back to reveal more. Claudio has such a passion for archeology, he answered all our questions with ease and next time we come we would love to goon a dig with him.

I would highly recommend this tour to anyone that has an interest in Ancient Rome and particularly Julius Caesar or Augustus. Claudio helped me to understand how Rome looked in those years and how it has changed up until now. As it helps you to distinguish between buildings that are ancient along with their approximate century, versus medieval I would also recommend attending early in your holiday. Claudio is an archeologist who has carefully researched the Caesar era and takes you through a walking tour of the events and buildings that existed during that era. It has allowed me to look at Rome with a new perspective and understanding.

Claudio was absolutely the best guide ever! We bought the tour as a birthday gift for our father, who is a fan of Ancient Rome and it was the best gift ever! Claudio was so passionate and knew so much about the ancient history and told us all kinds of theories and stories. As an archeologist he of course knew a lot about the buildings and the history of them. Quite often you find guides telling you small details without really understanding the big picture. Claudio, however, could tell us the whole story from Ancient Rome to WW II in a way we understood. The tour was supposed to be 2,5 hours, but we ended up spending almost 4 hours with him and it was fantastic. I think I can’t hype enough the tour, but just believe when I say, that this is the best tour you can take in Rome if you want to know anything more than the basic info you can find in a tour guide.

This was a great tour. Claudio was leading us and he was a wealth of information. The things he pointed out were fascinating. This tour is a must if you’re interested in getting deeper into the history of Rome. The only thing I would advise is the time factor. We went well beyond the 2.5 hours listed for the tour. Not that I minded!
