Qué harás

We'll take a walk around Kreuzberg - one of Berlin's most multicultural, contradictory, and vibrant districts with its unmistakable anything-goes atmosphere.

This is a locality with fine-dining restaurants and punk squats, colourful Turkish markets and minimalist designer boutiques, hip bars, vegan cafes, cult kebab stands, picturesque parks, and crowded techno-clubs.

I will tell you how anarchists contributed to the preservation of Berlin's historic architecture, and how West Berlin squatters met their peers from East Berlin and had to face the who-is-doing-the-dishes issue.

You'll see some cool street art and hear the story behind 2 black walls, which used to be some of Berlin's most famous murals.

We will have lunch at Kreuzberg's oldest building where sisters of the Bethanien monastery used to dine and (later) squatters used to hang out. Be prepared to walk a lot and hear stories of Berlin's distant and recent history - sometimes sad, sometimes funny, sometimes unbelievable. Join me for a walk to catch Berlin's multicultural, bohemian counterculture vibe!

Throughout the years that I've been living in Berlin, I have been exploring the history and the unique spirit of this multifaceted, frenzied, and incredible city. I have discovered so many amazing stories, that at some point I realized I want to share them with people.

Working in PR and culture news journalism, I mastered the art of storytelling. Now, tour-guiding gives me a great opportunity to put these skills into practice.

Apart from showing visitors Berlin's hidden gems, I do translations, organize cultural events for kids and grownups, do yoga, and raise my two awesome sons.

Donde estarás

We will visit several Kreuzberg locations, including Graeferkiez with its turn-of-the-century houses and cozy cafes, Fraenkelufer, a romantic riverside area, Kottbusserr Tor, an edgy spot full of life and contrasts; Köpi 137, a punk squat; the former border crossing at the Oberbaumbrücke bridge. We're NOT coming back to the meeting point, the final destination is the East Side Gallery.

I had a great time with our beautiful guide Maria today who took us around the neighbourhood on a very engaging and insightful tour. There were lots of interesting stories to listen to and Maria had a large collection of photos to share to provide context. The lunch place had some great spaghetti and dessert, which was also a plus! Definitely would recommend for others visiting the area.

On a chilly morning in November Maria managed to make us forget the cold. She surprised us with so many unexpected twists and turns. The tour itself is almost disorienting because you see so much of Kreuzberg and somehow never end up passing the same thing twice. Her commentary is succinct, relevant, often humorous, and loaded with her own enthusiasm for culture, history, and design. When you least expect it, she leads you into a seemingly off limits courtyard to have a look around. She will show you so many places that you’d completely miss otherwise. Perhaps the greatest gift of this experience was the incredible personal story Maria shared at lunch. As a side note: the location she selected for lunch is truly lovely and worth visiting in its own right- it’s very rare to get good food on a tour. This is a great experience and a wonderful value for the time and care Maria has put into it. There is not one “Berlin” and you will leave with a new level of insight into this small piece of an ever-evolving city.

Maria's tour was full of great discoveries and insights into Berlin's true nature. I personally loved the historical notes and the multicultural landmarks of the tour. I wholeheartedly recommend this tour as it literally brings you to the essence of Berlin. Maria was capable of highlighting such a mix of genres and contrasts, a city shaped by people experiencing arts and lifestyle, the continuous evolution of a city with its own distinctive personality. All you need for this tour is comfy shoes and eagerness to listen :)

Outstanding tour. Maria was well-informed and gave us interesting stories and background about the neighborhood. It was a pleasantly small group and Maria was always ready to answer our questions.

I signed up for this tour just 3 hours before it began. Luckily there was a spot available. The tour was fun and informative with all the edgy trendy art playing a part in history and current issues. I saw a different Berlin. Maria has put in alot if effort to curate yhis tour and the pictures on her ipad complement the "before" Berlin with the exact spots we were in. Maria is pointed out lots of intresting street art murals...She is cheerful and caring & concerned with saftey. It was an enjoyable time with her. And she was generous with information unrelated to the tour. Listen to a personal story of wartime ....that is a beautiful takeaway. Thank you so much Maria.
