Your tasty tour experience begins in the world famous Djemaa El-Fna square, home to a trading history that goes back a millennia. After a brief introduction to the city and its magnificent main square, we’ll make our way through some of the many backstreets that branch off from the hustle and bustle of the after an initial briefing, we’ll wander off into the small streets branching off from the square. As we walk we’ll stop to sample olives, nuts and other traditional local treats at a series of hidden stalls and shops that would be hard to find on your own. Sampling food in Marrakech provides visitors with a fascinating insight into the local culture. After trying a few treats, we’ll visit the poultry/beef market to see how the locals shop and bargain. Next up, we’re talking spices and where better to do this than the iconic spice market? Moroccan cuisine is well known for its fragrant spices, so we’ll stop to learn how the spices are used in traditional cuisine and find out why Marrakech became such a popular spot for spice trading. Our food odyssey will continue through the souks, where we’ll discover traditional breads and learn how nomadic communities preserved meat during wartime scarcity. Maybe we’ll try a cow hoof or sheep’s head if you’re feeling brave and perhaps stop to try some Ghoulal (snail soup). Our tour will finish where we started, in the Djemaa El-Fna.
We are a group of passionate locals who have gotten together to form a local tour business called Urban Adventures. I was born and raised in- the Medina-the Old city of Marrakech. As a local guide and a very passionate foodie, I love telling stories about Marrakech culture through a Unique foodie tour experience. I have written about Moroccan food and hosted private dinners where I tell my guests about what makes our cuisine so delicious. Another passion of mine is cooking. Forget about boring history tours, the best way to learn about a city is through the history of its people, local neighborhoods and food!
